Citizenship through Parents

General

There are generally two ways of obtaining citizenship through parents who are United States citizens, one at birth and one after birth (but before the eighteen years of age).

Requirements

A child may obtain citizenship U.S. citizen parents if both of the child's parents are citizens at least one has resided in U.S. Alternatively, a child may still obtain citizenship if one parent was a citizen at the time of the child's birth and that parent has been residing within the U.S. for five years, at least two of which must have been after the child was fourteen years of age.
